Bio Spicule FAQs
What is a Bio Spicule treatment?
Bio Spicule is a device-free skin resurfacing treatment using microscopic spicules that are worked into the skin to create controlled stimulation. This encourages natural skin renewal and helps improve overall skin quality, texture and clarity.
Is Bio Spicule the same as microneedling?
No. Although both treatments stimulate the skin and support renewal, traditional microneedling uses a device containing fine needles to create controlled micro-channels. Bio Spicule achieves skin stimulation without the use of a microneedling device.
What can Bio Spicule help with?
It may help improve uneven texture, enlarged pores, congestion, breakouts, post-acne marks, pigmentation, fine lines and dull or lacklustre skin.
Does Bio Spicule hurt?
The treatment can feel prickly or tingly as the spicules are worked into the skin. A prickling sensation may also remain afterwards, particularly when touching or cleansing the skin.
What is the downtime?
Redness and sensitivity can occur following treatment. The skin may feel prickly for 24–72 hours, and some clients may experience dryness, flaking or light peeling as the skin renews.
When will I see results?
Skin may begin to look brighter and smoother as the renewal process takes place. Improvements in texture and overall skin quality can continue following treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your skin and what you would like to improve. Some clients may benefit from a course of treatments, which will be discussed following a skin assessment.
Can I wear makeup afterwards?
It is best to avoid makeup immediately following treatment and allow the skin time to recover. Individual aftercare advice will be provided at your appointment.
What skincare should I avoid afterwards?
Active ingredients such as retinoids, exfoliating acids and physical exfoliants should be avoided during the initial recovery period. You should also avoid picking or exfoliating any peeling skin and use daily SPF.
Who is Bio Spicule suitable for?
It can be suitable for a range of skin concerns, but not every treatment is appropriate for every client. A consultation and skin assessment will be completed beforehand to check suitability and discuss your goals.
Can Bio Spicule be used anywhere other than the face?
Yes. Depending on the product/protocol and individual concern, Bio Spicule treatments can also be used on suitable areas of the body. This will be assessed during consultation.
How is Bio Spicule different from a chemical peel?
Chemical peels use specific acids or solutions to create controlled exfoliation, whereas Bio Spicule uses microscopic spicules to physically stimulate the skin's renewal process. The most appropriate option depends on your skin and concerns.
