Fat Dissolving FAQs
Everything you need to know before your treatment
Fat dissolving injections are designed to target small, stubborn pockets of fat that have not responded to a healthy diet and regular exercise. Below you'll find answers to the questions I am asked most often before treatment.
If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
What are fat dissolving injections?
Fat dissolving injections contain a substance that helps break down and permanently destroy targeted fat cells. Once treated, the body naturally removes these cells over the following weeks.
Fat dissolving is designed for small, localised areas of stubborn fat and is not a weight-loss treatment.
What areas can be treated?
Common treatment areas include:
-
Double chin
-
Jawline
-
Abdomen
-
Flanks (love handles)
-
Inner thighs
-
Outer thighs
-
Upper arms
-
Bra bulge
-
Back fat
Treatment suitability will be assessed during your consultation.
How many treatments will I need?
Most clients require between 2–6 sessions, depending on the treatment area and the amount of fat being treated.
Treatments are usually spaced 4–6 weeks apart.
When will I see results?
Results develop gradually as your body naturally removes the treated fat cells.
Most clients begin noticing changes after 4–6 weeks, with continued improvement over the following weeks.
Are the results permanent?
Yes.
Once fat cells have been destroyed, they cannot return.
However, maintaining a stable weight is important, as the remaining fat cells can still increase in size if significant weight is gained.
Does the treatment hurt?
You may experience a stinging or burning sensation during treatment, but this usually settles quickly.
Most clients tolerate treatment well.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal, although swelling is expected.
You may experience:
-
Swelling
-
Redness
-
Tenderness
-
Bruising
-
Firmness
Swelling can last several days and is a normal part of the treatment process.
How long does the appointment take?
Appointments usually take around 30–45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Is a consultation required?
Yes.
Every client receives a full consultation before treatment. This includes discussing your goals, reviewing your medical history, assessing the treatment area and ensuring fat dissolving is the most appropriate option for you.
Can I have treatment at my consultation?
In many cases, yes.
If you are medically suitable and wish to proceed, treatment can often be carried out on the same day following your consultation.
Who is not suitable for fat dissolving?
Treatment may not be suitable if you:
-
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
-
Have an active infection in the treatment area
-
Have certain medical conditions
-
Have allergies to any ingredients within the product
-
Are medically unsuitable following consultation
Suitability will always be assessed before treatment.
What should I avoid after treatment?
For the first 24–48 hours avoid:
-
Strenuous exercise
-
Saunas and steam rooms
-
Excessive heat
-
Alcohol
-
Massaging the treated area unless advised
You should also keep the area clean and follow all aftercare advice provided.
Is fat dissolving a weight-loss treatment?
No.
Fat dissolving injections are intended to treat small, stubborn pockets of fat. They are not a substitute for weight loss, a healthy diet or regular exercise.
Will I have loose skin afterwards?
Fat dissolving injections remove fat, but they do not tighten loose skin.
If skin laxity is your main concern, alternative or combination treatments may be more appropriate. This will be discussed during your consultation.
Are fat dissolving injections safe?
When carried out by a qualified medical professional following a full consultation and assessment, fat dissolving injections have an excellent safety profile.
As with any injectable treatment, there are potential risks and side effects, which will be discussed before treatment.
