Polynucleotides FAQs

Everything you need to know before your treatment

Polynucleotides are one of the latest regenerative treatments in aesthetic medicine, helping to improve skin quality by supporting your skin's natural repair and regeneration processes.

Below are answers to the questions I am asked most often before treatment. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are highly purified DNA fragments that stimulate your skin's natural repair processes.

Rather than adding volume like dermal fillers, they work by improving skin quality, encouraging collagen production, enhancing hydration and supporting tissue regeneration.

What areas can be treated?

Polynucleotides can be used to treat:

  • Under-eye area

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Décolletage

  • Hands

Treatment recommendations will be tailored to your individual concerns during your consultation.

What skin concerns can polynucleotides improve?

Polynucleotides may help improve:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Thin or crepey skin

  • Dark under-eye appearance

  • Skin laxity

  • Dehydrated skin

  • Dull skin

  • Acne scarring

  • Sun-damaged skin

  • Overall skin quality

How many treatments will I need?

For the best results, a course of 3 treatments is usually recommended, approximately 3–4 weeks apart.

Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months may be recommended depending on your skin and treatment goals.

When will I see results?

Some clients notice improvements in hydration and skin quality within a few weeks.

Collagen production and skin regeneration continue over several months, with results gradually improving following each treatment.

How long do the results last?

Results vary from person to person, but many clients enjoy improvements for around 6–12 months, particularly after completing a full treatment course.

Do polynucleotides add volume?

No.

Unlike dermal fillers, polynucleotides do not add volume or change your facial features.

Their purpose is to improve the quality, strength and health of your skin from within.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most clients tolerate treatment very well.

A topical numbing cream can be applied where appropriate to maximise comfort.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal.

You may experience:

  • Mild redness

  • Swelling

  • Small injection bumps

  • Tenderness

  • Occasional bruising

These effects are temporary and usually settle within a few days.

How long does the appointment take?

Appointments usually take around 30–45 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

Is a consultation required?

Yes.

Every client receives a comprehensive consultation before treatment. This includes reviewing your medical history, assessing your skin concerns and ensuring the treatment is appropriate for your goals.

Can I have treatment at my consultation?

In many cases, yes.

If you are medically suitable and wish to proceed, treatment can often be carried out on the same day following your consultation.

Who is not suitable for polynucleotides?

Treatment may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have an active skin infection

  • Have certain allergies to the product

  • Have certain medical conditions

  • Are medically unsuitable following consultation

Suitability will always be assessed before treatment.

What should I avoid after treatment?

For the first 24–48 hours, avoid:

  • Touching or rubbing the treated area

  • Heavy exercise

  • Saunas and steam rooms

  • Swimming

  • Excessive heat

  • Alcohol

  • Makeup for several hours where advised

Full aftercare guidance will be provided.

Are polynucleotides safe?

When administered by a qualified medical professional using approved products, polynucleotides have an excellent safety profile.

As with any injectable treatment, potential risks and side effects will be discussed during your consultation before treatment.

Can polynucleotides be combined with other treatments?

Yes.

Polynucleotides can often be incorporated into a personalised treatment plan alongside treatments such as microneedling, skin boosters or anti-wrinkle injections, depending on your individual concerns and treatment goals.

Are polynucleotides the same as skin boosters?

No.

Although both treatments improve skin quality, they work differently.

Skin boosters primarily hydrate the skin using hyaluronic acid, while polynucleotides focus on regenerating and repairing the skin by stimulating your body's natural healing processes.

Will I still look natural?

Absolutely.

Polynucleotides work gradually to improve the health and appearance of your skin without changing your facial features, providing subtle, refreshed and natural-looking results.
