PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) FAQs

Everything you need to know before your treatment

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative treatment that uses your body's own natural healing abilities to improve skin quality and encourage hair growth.

Below are answers to the questions I am asked most often before treatment. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

What is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma.

The treatment involves taking a small sample of your own blood, processing it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting or applying the platelet-rich plasma to the treatment area.

Platelets contain natural growth factors that help stimulate tissue repair, collagen production and cellular regeneration.

What can PRP be used to treat?

PRP can be used for:

  • Hair thinning and hair loss

  • Skin rejuvenation

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne scarring

  • Sun-damaged skin

  • Overall skin quality

Treatment recommendations will be discussed during your consultation.

How does PRP work?

PRP works by using your body's own platelets and growth factors to stimulate natural healing and regeneration.

This encourages collagen production, improves skin quality and supports healthier hair growth over time.

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients benefit from a course of 3 treatments, approximately 4–6 weeks apart.

Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months may be recommended depending on your treatment goals.

When will I see results?

PRP works gradually.

Many clients begin noticing improvements after several weeks, with continued improvement over the following months as the body's natural regenerative processes continue.

How long do the results last?

Results vary between individuals.

Following a full course of treatment, many clients enjoy improvements for 6–12 months, particularly when maintenance treatments are continued.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most clients tolerate PRP very well.

A topical numbing cream may be applied for facial treatments to maximise comfort.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal.

You may experience:

  • Mild redness

  • Swelling

  • Tenderness

  • Bruising

These effects are temporary and usually settle within a few days.

How long does the appointment take?

Appointments usually take around 45–60 minutes, including the blood collection, preparation of the PRP and treatment.

Is a consultation required?

Yes.

Every client receives a comprehensive consultation before treatment. This includes reviewing your medical history, discussing your concerns and ensuring PRP is the most appropriate treatment for your goals.

Can I have treatment at my consultation?

In many cases, yes.

If you are medically suitable and wish to proceed, treatment can often be carried out during the same appointment.

Who is not suitable for PRP?

PRP may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have certain blood disorders

  • Have active infections

  • Are taking certain medications

  • Have uncontrolled medical conditions

  • Are medically unsuitable following consultation

Suitability will always be assessed before treatment.

What should I avoid after treatment?

For the first 24–48 hours, avoid:

  • Heavy exercise

  • Saunas and steam rooms

  • Swimming

  • Excessive sun exposure

  • Alcohol

  • Touching or rubbing the treated area unnecessarily

Full aftercare advice will be provided following your treatment.

Is PRP safe?

Yes.

Because PRP uses your own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction to the treatment itself.

When performed by a qualified medical professional using sterile equipment, PRP has an excellent safety profile.

Can PRP be combined with other treatments?

Yes.

Depending on your treatment goals, PRP may be combined with treatments such as microneedling as part of a personalised treatment plan.

This will be discussed during your consultation.

Will I still look natural?

Absolutely.

PRP works by enhancing your body's own regenerative processes rather than changing your facial features.

Results develop gradually, leaving your skin looking healthier or your hair appearing fuller in a natural way.
