Exosomes FAQs

Everything you need to know before your treatment

Exosomes are one of the most advanced regenerative treatments available in aesthetic medicine. They work by supporting your body's natural repair processes, helping to improve skin quality and encourage healthier hair growth.

Below are answers to the questions I am asked most often before treatment. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

What are exosomes?

Exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles that contain powerful signalling molecules, including growth factors, proteins and peptides.

Rather than adding volume or changing your appearance, exosomes support your body's natural regenerative processes, encouraging tissue repair and improving overall skin and hair health.

What can exosomes be used to treat?

Exosome therapy may help improve:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Skin texture

  • Skin hydration

  • Dull or ageing skin

  • Acne scarring

  • Redness and inflammation

  • Hair thinning

  • Hair loss

  • Overall skin quality

Treatment recommendations will always be tailored to your individual concerns.

How do exosomes work?

Exosomes act as messengers between cells.

They deliver signals that encourage your body's natural repair mechanisms, helping to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation and support healthier skin and hair.

How are exosomes applied?

Exosomes are most commonly applied following treatments such as microneedling, allowing the active ingredients to penetrate the skin more effectively.

For hair restoration, they are applied directly to the scalp following the appropriate treatment protocol.

Your treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on your individual concerns.

Many clients benefit from a course of 3 treatments, usually spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments if appropriate.

When will I see results?

Many clients begin noticing improvements within a few weeks.

Results continue to develop over the following months as collagen production and tissue regeneration continue.

How long do the results last?

Results vary between individuals depending on the treatment area, lifestyle and skin or hair condition.

Many clients enjoy improvements for 6–12 months, particularly after completing a full treatment course.

Does the treatment hurt?

Exosomes themselves do not cause discomfort.

If combined with microneedling, a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to maximise comfort.

Most clients tolerate treatment very well.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime depends on the treatment being performed.

Following microneedling with exosomes you may experience:

  • Mild redness

  • Tightness

  • Tenderness

  • Slight swelling

These effects usually settle within 24–48 hours.

How long does the appointment take?

Appointments usually take around 45–60 minutes, depending on the treatment area and whether exosomes are combined with another treatment.

Is a consultation required?

Yes.

Every client receives a comprehensive consultation before treatment. This includes reviewing your medical history, discussing your concerns and ensuring exosome therapy is appropriate for your treatment goals.

Can I have treatment at my consultation?

In many cases, yes.

If you are medically suitable and wish to proceed, treatment can often be carried out during the same appointment.

Who is not suitable for exosome therapy?

Treatment may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have an active infection in the treatment area

  • Have certain medical conditions

  • Are medically unsuitable following consultation

Suitability will always be assessed before treatment.

What should I avoid after treatment?

For the first 24–48 hours, avoid:

  • Heavy exercise

  • Swimming

  • Saunas and steam rooms

  • Excessive sun exposure

  • Alcohol

  • Makeup for at least 24 hours if treating the face

  • Active skincare products unless advised

You will receive full aftercare instructions following treatment.

Are exosomes safe?

When high-quality exosome products are used by a qualified medical professional following a full consultation and clinical assessment, exosome therapy has an excellent safety profile.

As with any aesthetic treatment, potential risks and side effects will always be discussed before treatment.

Can exosomes be combined with other treatments?

Yes.

Exosomes are commonly combined with treatments such as microneedling to enhance skin rejuvenation and support the skin's natural healing response.

For hair restoration, they may also form part of a personalised treatment plan.

Will I still look natural?

Absolutely.

Exosomes do not change your facial features or add volume.

Instead, they support healthier skin and hair by encouraging your body's natural regenerative processes, helping you achieve subtle, refreshed and natural-looking results.
